How It Works

Cost Model
  • Reusable total: (upfront cost / lifespan * years) + (maintenance cost * years). Replacement purchases are prorated over the analysis period.
  • Disposable total: cost per unit * units per year * years.
  • Break-even: the month at which cumulative reusable cost falls below cumulative disposable cost.
Environmental Model
  • Reusable CO2: (upfront CO2 / lifespan * years) prorated over replacements. CO2 to produce is amortized across its entire lifespan.
  • Disposable CO2: CO2 per unit (g) * total units / 1000 kg.
  • Waste: weight per unit (g) * total units / 1000 kg.
  • Tree equivalent: 1 tree absorbs roughly 21 kg CO2 per year; shown as CO2 avoided divided by 21.
Default values are representative averages. Actual figures vary by brand, usage habits, and local waste systems. Use custom inputs for precise estimates.
